Lisa Marie Hunter was born in Houston, Texas in 1981, where she currently lives and works. Lisa studied works on paper at The Glassell School of Art, of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. She has had recent solo exhibitions (under the name Lisa Marie Godfrey) at Domy Books, Houston, TX., (2007); Apama Mackey Gallery, Houston, TX., (2008); and Domy Books, Austin, TX., (2009).

Through her artwork, Hunter explores her perception of the “inner” and “outer” self. She frequently investigates ideas of personal mysticism and annalizes her own abilities to cope with the flux of every-day life.

In her drawings and paintings, the “characters” commonly represent different aspects of herself, conveying feelings of loss and reflection. 

Her 3D works often combine different found elements, such as books, feathers, bones, altered photographs and postcards; arranged in particular ways to further unravel her narratives.
